“This work began as a simple figure study, inspired by the impending birth of my daughter. During the process of creation, however, it assumed greater meaning. I believe that the human figure is the single most expressive image available to an artist, and that a baby is the image of life in its purest form.

“The pod surrounding the baby is styled on the seed of the Australian native Black Bean tree and represents birth, protection and nurture.”
